Lock Out / Tag Out

When working on your vessel the importance of locking out and tagging out equipment cannot be underestimated. Out-of-service tags identify plant and equipment that is unfit or hazardous for operation and communicates the repair status of that equipment.

The Picture is an example of what a tag may look like. This tag is intended to prevent equipment from being accidentally used until repairs are complete and the hazard eliminated or controlled. Out-of-service tags identify plant and equipment that is unfit or hazardous for operation and communicates the repair status of that equipment (“Work incomplete” must not be written as a repair status).

This tag is intended to prevent equipment from being accidentally used until repairs are complete and the hazard eliminated or controlled.

Out of Service Tags do not provide personal protection – they are a communication tool on the status of plant. Removal of Tags −Only a competent person from the working discipline who repaired the equipment eg. Mechanical or electrical maintenance is authorised to remove an Out-of-Service tag once it has been assessed that the plant or equipment is now fit for use and that the hazard has been removed. −The Out of Service Tag must only be removed when work has been completed or there is no longer a risk of exposure to any uncontrolled hazard relating to the repair work undertaken.

Create a safe working environment by keeping communication clear with your crew.
