International Maritime Safety Agencies

National System

The National System is a component of the National Transport Reform Package. The package is intended to improve safety and reduce the regulatory burden and costs on the Australian rail, heavy vehicle and maritime industries.

Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA)

AMSA is responsible for maintaining and developing a nationally consistent regulatory framework that includes standards setting and National System Regulations and Marine Orders.

Maritime NZ

Maritime New Zealand is a Crown entity established in 1993 under the name Maritime Safety Authority. It was renamed Maritime New Zealand (MNZ) in July 2005.

Maritime and Coast Guard Agency United Kingdom

The Coast Guard is an adaptable, responsive military force of maritime professionals whose broad legal authorities, capable assets, geographic diversity and expansive partnerships provide a persistent presence.

America Boat and Yacht Council

The American Boat and Yacht Council, ABYC, was created in 1954 as a non-profit organization to develop safety standards for the design, construction, equipage, repair and maintenance of boats.

International Maritime Organization IMO

The International Maritime Organization – is the United Nations specialized agency with responsibility for the safety and security of shipping and the prevention of marine pollution by ships.

Australian National law

ComLaw has the most complete and up-to-date collection of Commonwealth legislation and includes notices from the Commonwealth Government Notices Gazette from 1 October 2012.

The Royal yachting Association (RYA)

The Royal Yachting Association (RYA), is the national body for all forms of boating, including dinghy and yacht racing, motor and sail cruising, RIBs and sports boats, powerboat racing, windsurfing, inland cruising and narrowboats, and personal watercraft.

Transport Canada (Marine)

Transport Canada promotes efficient marine transportation and safe, secure and sustainable marine practices; oversees marine infrastructure; regulates the safe transportation of dangerous goods by water; and helps protect the marine environment.

International Association of Classification Societies

Dedicated to safe ships and clean seas, IACS makes a unique contribution to maritime safety and regulation through technical support, compliance verification and research and development.
